Staff

- Our staff is collegial, thoughtful, and collaborative.  We work as a professional learning community and have students’ achievement and well-being as our priorities.  Our teachers are extraordinary in their willingness to support their students in a caring way.
- Many teachers have earned or are working towards their Master’s Degree and National Teacher Certification
- Exemplary Crisis Action Team, staff and students who are trained for emergencies, this fast response system is coordinated with the City of Santa Rosa’s fire and police departments
- Thirty percent of our teachers are trained in rigorous International Baccalaureate (IB) curriculum, benefiting all students.  IB teachers teach all levels of classes, infusing all classes with the rich strategies of IB
- Three of our teachers have been selected as IB examiners and they assess works from around the world in their respective fields
- As the Viking family, we strive to ensure a positive, proactive and safe environment for all on our campus.

Facilities

- New administration building houses administration, attendance and counseling offices and creates a welcoming entrance to the school
- New all weather track, sports field, baseball/softball facilities, and tennis courts; new stadium lighting for our night games; the community is invited to spend an enjoyable evening watching high school sports events
- All classrooms have Web access and the campus has five computer labs
- Montgomery celebrated its 50 year anniversary with a gala, “The Big Monty”, which included alumni and teachers from the past five decades.  The celebration also served as a fundraiser for the Montgomery Education Foundation

Curriculum and Programs

- International Baccalaureate courses in fourteen subject areas and additional honors classes in every subject matter, we continually increase the numbers of students who are earning the prestigious IB Diploma, students who opt not to attempt the full diploma may receive IB certificates for certain classes
- World language courses in French, Mandarin, Spanish and Latin, from introductory to college level International Baccalaureate are offered
- Students who are first-in-their-families to attend college are enrolled in the AVID (Advancement via Individual Determination) program, designed to support them in applying, being accepted, and succeeding in college
- Write Stuff literacy project schoolwide to support all of our students in more rigorous writing
- Career Pathways in the following areas:  Arts & Communications, Business, Computers & Information Technology, Green Building and Design Technology
- Successful Safe Schools Ambassador Program, mitigating bullying, and keeping eyes and ears open for potential instances of conflict. Only program in the country that is an articulated program (elementary through high school), involves hundreds of students who help keep campuses safe
- Numerous active service clubs that inspire youth involvement:  Interact Club, Key Club, Black Student Union, Sol Club, Green Club, among others
- IB School:  We provide a rigorous course of instruction for all learners, focused on intercultural understanding to create lifelong learners.

Achievements and Awards

- Twenty-three students completed the requirements for a full IB diploma in 2008
- Forty eight percent of graduates meet the UC and CSU entrance requirements
- High pass rates annually on the California High School Exit Exam
- Students matriculate to the top universities and colleges nationwide, with some attending international college
- The band and choral departments regularly host and participate in national and international competitions, earning the highest honors
- The Jazz Band performed at Disneyland and participated in a movie soundtrack recording workshop at the Disney studios
- The Choral Department annually hosts the Renaissance Madrigal Dinner  Students were in full Renaissance costume and guests were the Lords and His Majesty’s Court at an extraordinary evening of delicious food, beautiful music, humorous skits, all provided by the choir students
- The entire music department collaborates to produce a musical:  for the 2007-2008 school year, it was Guys and Dolls
- Press Democrat Youth Service awards have been won by students in a variety of areas
- Montgomery athletes are scholars: 27 out of 33 sports teams (both JV and V) were Scholastic Achievement Teams (team GPA of 3.0 or above)
- MHS excels in the number of scholar/athletes across the region. We had 225 students who were recognized as scholar/athletes (GPA of 3.5 or better during their primary season of sport) in the 2007-2008 school year
