Staff

- Jerry Deakins, Social Science teacher, received the Outstanding Teacher of the Year award from Santa Rosa Chamber of Commerce in August 2007
- Six teachers are National Board Certified
- English teacher regional winner of Teacher of the Year selected by California League of High Schools
- Many teachers have earned or are working towards their Master’s Degree
- Teacher won the high school California State Award from CAG (California Association for the Gifted)

Facilities

- Newest campus in the district—a thirteen year-old, state of the art campus
- All classrooms have Web access and the campus has seven computer labs
- New Automotive Technology Facility with diagnostic computer lab
- Professional level Culinary Arts Facility with Catering Program

Curriculum and Programs

- Twelve advanced placement courses and additional honors classes in every subject
- Advocacy class, meeting four days a week, provides students with academic and personal support throughout their four years
- Lower classmen benefit from the linking of English and social studies curriculum
- Unique Humanities course teaches students geography and about the world beyond North America
- Students may choose two styles of mathematics instruction:  traditional or College Preparatory Math (discovery/collaborative teaching)
- Unique senior poetry unit in English class with several related activities including visiting authors, a student website and public poetry reading event
- Unique electives available include Oceanography, Zoology, and Oral Interpretation
- Career Pathways in the following areas: Arts & Communications, Auto Technology, Culinary Arts, Engineering

Achievements and Awards

- Acknowledged as the highest academic achieving comprehensive high school in the county
- Forty five percent of graduates meet the UC and CSU entrance requirements
- High pass rates on Advanced Placement exams
- Highest pass rates annually on the California High School Exit Exam
- Students matriculate to the top universities and colleges nationwide, with some attending international colleges
- State and National awards for Forensics/Debate Team after only two years in operation
- Music program, including Symphonic and Jazz Bands and the Chamber Singers and Jazz Choir win top awards regularly at numerous festivals and competitions
- Multiple Martin Luther King Speech contest winners over the past few years
- Press Democrat Youth Service awards have been won by students in a variety of areas
- Recognized as California Honor Roll School for 2007 by the California Business for Education Excellence  Foundation
- 2004 graduate directed the Hasty Pudding Roast at Harvard University
- 2002 graduate was two-time NCAA Division I men’s decathlon champion and competed for a spot on the 2008 Olympic track and field team
- In April, 2008, fifteen students participated in the San Francisco Bay Area Science Fair, with four of those students moving on to represent the San Francisco Bay Area at the California State Science Fair in Los Angeles
- The Culinary Class participated in ‘Wine Country Chefs of Tomorrow… Taking Flight’, sponsored by the Sonoma County Lodging Association.  MCHS students won the Lucky Ladle Award in 2007, given for quality of food and presentation
