Business, Computers & Information Technology

The Business, Computers & Information Technology pathway offers emphases in business administration, computer applications, computer maintenance and networking, or web page design. Before choosing an area of emphasis, all students in this pathway start with an introductory computer course that provides a foundational understanding of several standard software applications and computer operating systems.

Business Administration & Finance coursework is offered at Montgomery, Ridgway and Santa Rosa High Schools, in Computer Software Applications, Business Management, Personal Finance or Accounting classes. Students will become proficient in the Microsoft Office Suite, complete a business plan, research, create and market a product, and explore current human resource issues in the workplace. Advanced students make valuable connections with local businesses through project-based learning, job shadows and internships in banks, retail stores, marketing firms, government and non-profit agencies.

Computer Applications students will become proficient in word processing, spreadsheet, publishing and database software. Courses cover introductory to advanced level software applications that prepare students with the skills to pass both basic and expert level Microsoft Office Specialist certification exams. The Computer Applications pathway is offered at Montgomery, Piner and Santa Rosa High Schools.

The Computer Maintenance and Networking program is offered at Santa Rosa High School. Students will learn computer operating systems and the fundamentals of how to program, analyze and maintain computers. Coursework focuses on designing, building, and maintaining computer networks. Students will gain hands-on experience with hubs, switches and routers. The ROP Cisco Certified Network Academy (CCNA) is a three-year program. Upon successful completion, students have the required knowledge to pass the CCNA exam and receive articulation credit with Santa Rosa Junior College.

The Web Page Design program teaches students HTML code and Microsoft FrontPage™ or comparable software. Students use technology including digital still and video cameras, color printers, and a multi-feed scanner to produce the school's website. First-year students concentrate on learning techniques and mastering technology, while second year students take on the responsibility of editing and managing website content. Web Design is offered at Elsie Allen, Piner and Santa Rosa High Schools.
